This series of books by Felice Arena and Phil Kettle chronicle the escapades of 'boys being boys' in a variety of everyday situations. Written specifically for reluctant readers, they appeal particularly to boys in Years 3 to 6 (the series has a reading age of 7-8 years).
Each book centres around a sporting or outdoor play theme and is written in dialogue format, thus encouraging shared and paired reading and presenting individual readers with short bursts of text. This 'playscript style' format is particularly successful with less experienced readers who may be intimidated by the sheer amount of script in more conventional books. Additionally each book contains related facts, jokes and quizzes - features which are especially appealing to boys of this age.
